In the picture above you see a fissure in a ruby (transmitted light, x40, FOV approx. 4 mm), which has been healed artificially during the thermal enhancement. In addition to the colour improvement, this method also improves significantly the transparency of the material.
The DGemG-information “Corundum with artificially healed fissures” presents the treatment process, the identification as well as the nomenclature required for this enhancement.
